Building knowledge about Trusts and Investments for Indigenous people by Indigenous people,
to enhance the professionalism and accountability in the management of this important resource.

Alanna Jones, Co-Chair Membership Committee

Alanna is Ojibwe Band member from Kitigaun Ziibii (Garden River) Ontario.

As Trust Manager for the Garden River First Nation Community Trust since 1997, Alanna believes that the traditional values (respect, humility wisdom, bravery, honesty, truth and love) can be a vehicle to return to our traditional ways of caring for one another with modern / western tools such as those found in community trust agreements. In 2006, Alanna along with a group of like-minded Trust managers and administrators were instrumental in organizing a national non-profit association called National Aboriginal Trust Officers Association which offers networking and online training for Indigenous communities to become self-sustaining in managing such a vital economic resource.

Highlights of her GRFNCT votes since 1998:
• 16 community votes
• 5 valid/successful votes
• 39 projects approved by Band members
• over $1.9 million disbursed to GRFN 39 projects

Alanna is proud of NATOA and its developments of educational opportunities regarding trust administration and responsible investment which safeguard and grow the valuable trust assets for Aboriginal / Indigenous communities!
